Responsible Consumption and Production

We advocate for responsible production and consumption as we aim to minimise the environmental and social impacts of our products and services in our supply chain.

Overview

We believe that future generations have a right to live on an unspoilt planet. To leave a mark we can be proud of, we understand the importance of minimising the environmental and social impacts of the products and services throughout our supply chain. This guides how we work with hundreds of suppliers as we seek innovative and sustainable solutions to our needs.

The journey so far

In 2022 we achieved zero waste to landfill for a 5th
consecutive year and delivered a 782 tonne reduction in our total waste. We also performed a first-of-its kind
assessment in Ireland of nature-related impacts and dependencies as well the associated risks and opportunities for the business. We understand the importance of minimising the environmental and social impacts of the products and services throughout our supply chain. This guides how we work with hundreds of
suppliers as we seek innovative and sustainable solutions to our needs.

Feature Story – Biodiversity for An Post

With our national footprint, we have a responsibility to not only ensure that our ecological footprint is as small as possible, but to ensure we restore and enhance natural capital on our properties. Integral to our biodiversity strategy is our ambition to develop and implement a biodiversity strategy for 100% of buildings within An Post’s property portfolio by 2030. Making sustainable living commonplace

We are committed to making a positive impact on our communities by creating everyday opportunities to make sustainable living commonplace for everyone in Ireland. From holding pollinator workshops to raise biodiversity awareness and creating a more sustainable Christmas TV commercial using the AdGreen carbon calculator, which helped us to analyse the carbon footprint of the Christmas campaign and identify opportunities to reduce emissions.

An Post is on the journey to net zero carbon emissions from our own operations by 2030 and we are taking important steps within the Responsible Consumption and Production to reach this goal.
