How much foreign currency can I buy at the post office?

Customers can buy up to €3,000 worth of currency in a single transaction. If a customer purchases more than €7,500 worth of currency in a 12-month period, they will need to provide proof of address and proof of ID.

Why do I need identification to buy foreign currency?

Anti Money Laundering legislation means we are required to check personal ID for customers changing over €1,000

You can apply for an An Post Money Currency Card through the An Post Money app, and top up your card in 15x currencies, all with 0% commission on foreign currencies. Your card will be sent out within five working days of your application being approved and you topping up the card.
