Elderly Man

Living with dementia

At An Post, we are dedicated to supporting those living with dementia, ensuring they can maintain their financial independence. We recognise the challenges that come with losing capacity and we are committed to providing the assistance you may need to manage your financial affairs.

You may need to appoint someone to make decisions on your behalf.

While you still have the capacity to make your own decisions, talk to your solicitor about an Enduring Power of Attorney. This only comes into effect when you lose capacity.
When the time comes when you can no longer make decisions, the person acting on your behalf will have to apply to the Courts to have the Enduring Power of Attorney put in place. Once registered, they can share this with An Post and we can have it noted on your account that they act on your behalf.

The Decision Support Services provide more information about Enduring Power of Attorney.
