Do you have an idea for a stamp?
When it comes to deciding what images go on our stamps, An Post starts by appointing a committee to decide on the subject matter. Another committee then decides on the general approach and finally an artist is appointed to design the stamp.
In selecting subjects which will appear on a stamp the following criteria are important:
- Anniversaries and commemorations of national and international importance
- Contributions by Irish people to international affairs
- Noteworthy aspects of Ireland, its life, country and people
- Suitability of the subject for depiction as a stamp
It takes two years to create each annual stamp programme from start to finish. We consider all stamp ideas in April each year.
