Leave a Mark

At An Post we believe in the power of words to change lives, that is why we're creating opportunity for all, so everyone can leave a mark.

Overview

At An Post we believe in the power of words to change lives. Right now, 1 in 6 adults in Ireland struggle with reading and understanding information*. This limits their opportunities in life. That’s why An Post supports the National Adult Literacy Agency’s work to improve adults’ reading and writing skills. We’re also enabling volunteers to tutor primary school students with our An Post Time to Read programme, delivered by Business in the Community Ireland, and on World Book Day we’re working with Children’s Books Ireland to deliver thousands of books for free to children. We’re creating opportunity for all, so everyone can leave a mark.

Children's Books Ireland

We continue our partnership with the charity Children’s Books Ireland and launched a bedtime reading guide called ‘Good Reads before Goodnights’ which was distributed through bookshops and libraries nationwide.

In partnership with Children’s Books Ireland, An Post are donating and delivering thousands of free books on World Book Day to children who are  experiencing homelessness, living in Direct Provision or are in hospital. Because we believe every child in Ireland should have access to the joy of reading.

National Adult Literacy Agency

An Post proudly supports the National Adult Literacy Agency's (NALA) work by raising awareness of services that enable adults to improve their reading, writing, maths and digital skills. NALA is a charity committed to making sure people with unmet literacy, numeracy and digital literacy needs have access to learning opportunities and can fully take part in society. In Ireland, more than 500,000 people struggle with reading and understanding information*. This means they may be unable to fill in a form, vote, read instructions on medicines, add up a bill, help kids with homework or search the web for information. For more information, visit the NALA website.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

We expanded our work with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and family support services to deliver books to thousands of children aged 0-5 every month in the Dublin 24 postal district and parts of Cork city. This encourages their early reading, concentration skills and helps prepare them for starting school. In 2021, we supported the delivery of 69,615 books for free to children through the Imagination Library.
