International Stamp (Europa: Underwater Flora and Fauna)
Free delivery to Republic of Ireland
EUROPA stamps have been issued by An Post annually since the early 1960s, in conjunction with other European Post Offices. The Pan-European administration of Post Offices (PostEurop) selects a theme and each country issues two stamps on the topic, consistently among our most sought-after.
For 2024, it is ‘Underwater Flora and Fauna’. These stamps issue on 6th June, ahead of World Oceans Day on 8th June.
This ‘W’ international rate stamp features the Compass Jellyfish, a species that is especially abundant along the Irish west coast, indicative of a healthy ecosystem, and integral to local biodiversity. Schools
of young fish seek refuge from predators amongst the stinging tentacles, and the jellyfish are a vital food source for sea turtles and ocean sunfish.
The diatoms featured on the First Day Cover are single-cell species that come in a marvellous diversity of forms, and create about 25% of the oxygen in our atmosphere. They symbolise the profound interconnectedness of all life.
