Our annual ‘EUROPA’ stamp issue, due on May 9, this year celebrates one of the greatest global societal ideals.
‘PEACE—the highest value of humanity’ is the theme chosen by the pan-European PostEurop network of Post Offices for its 2023 offering. An Post is delighted to participate in this issue and, through its two stamps, to communicate a message of goodwill at home and abroad.
A notable feature of the winning PostEurop design competition for the ‘W’ denomination stamp is that it is inspired by the Celtic Love Knot symbol, with interlocking hearts. This represents a symbol of infinite unity, friendship and love. The POST Luxembourg winning entry offers a visual metaphor for a peacefully integrated, cooperative society, where people embrace each other’s culture.
The An Post ‘N’ stamp design reflects another dimension to this year’s chosen theme. The bilingual stamp is inspired by the concept that individual nations, represented as multicoloured birds, can come together as one flock to be a driving force for peace.
The visual representation depicts the birds flying up from their respective homelands to join as one continuous stream or flock that flies, as one force, to wherever peace is needed.
