PCI is a wholly owned subsidiary of An Post, providing specialist IT Strategy, Management and Development services across every aspect of An Post IT infrastructure. Alongside An Post IT staff, they collectively form the internal IT function known as Group Technology Services (GTS).
About the Role
An Post is currently evolving our core network, expanding our ICT portfolio, and strengthening our network services both on premise and in the cloud. Group Technology Service (GTS) is critical to building the technology capability that underpins these core services. This is a dynamic, diverse and rapidly evolving IT environment and as such, we need an experienced, service-focused Firewall Administrator who will work as part of the Network team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary focus for this role is implementation and maintenance of firewall systems within the organisation. Coordinating with technical and security teams to analyse and implement best-practices for securely operating enterprise network resources.

Collaborate with network and system administrators to ensure proper firewall integration and functionality across the organisation infrastructure.

Ensuring availability of firewall infrastructure to agreed service levels, in-line with business requirements.

Perform system administration of site-to-site and remote access VPN connections to include installation, configuration, maintenance, backup and restoration.

Perform required firewall software and security updates (may require out of hours work)

Monitor firewall logs and security events to identify and respond to potential security threats.

Pro-active management of firewall infrastructure/technologies, ensuring maximum availability and minimum downtime.

Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to resolve firewall related issues and incidents.

Communicate with colleagues/users/clients in a manner that enhances their understanding of specific technologies.
Knowledge and Experience:
-
Experience Required: 3-5 + years with proven experience as a firewall administrator or similar role with a strong background in network security and firewall management.

Experience of Cisco ASA, FTD and/or Checkpoint.

Excellent IP networking fundamentals with experience.

Knowledge of load balancing and IPS technologies: Cisco, Checkpoint and/or Citrix Netscaler

Knowledge of cloud networking and cloud platforms is an advantage.

Experience of implementing technology initiatives within large organisations.

Strong analytical and Excellent troubleshooting skills

Experience in the use and output analysis of packet sniffing technologies.

Proven ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail.

Ability to take projects from beginning to end with little direct supervision.

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Current formal qualification such as Cico CCNP R&S, CCNP Security, Checkpoint CCSA, CCSE
-
Knowledge of regulatory compliance (eg PCI DSS, GDPR) and their impact on firewall management is an advantage.
