Fuel and Energy Surcharge
Fuel and energy prices continue to rise in the market, driven by global economic trends. Diesel has risen 40% on the last 12 months and Electricity 27.8% (CSO, Consumer Price Index, April 2022).
On July 1st 2022, An Post Commerce implemented a fuel and energy surcharge on commercial domestic parcel rates. This will not affect business transacted at post office counters or via Click & Post.
The surcharge will be revised monthly based on a weighted average of the electricity and diesel price indexes in the CSO Consumer Price Index monthly report. The weighting is based on the proportion of An Post’s fleet that is powered by renewables. The surcharge is an addition to agreed domestic parcel rates.
Due to the requirement to publish surcharges in advance, the revised surcharge applicable in a month will be based on the CSO Consumer Price Index for two months previously, i.e. the surcharge applicable in December will be calculated based on October prices. Please note that the surcharge cannot go below zero.
