An Post Europa stamp hits the right note
9 May 2014
Each year European post offices select a common theme and each country then produces a stamp on that topic. This year’s theme is ‘National Musical Instruments’ and Ireland’s contribution to the so called Europa series features the classic Irish musical instrument, the harp, and its most popular, the Bodhrán.
The stamps were designed by the Design Factory and feature photos of the Irish Harp and Bodhrán. The Harp stamp (90c) features a rare instrument made by leading harp maker John Egan. The second stamp (60c) features a Bodhrán that belonged to noted Wildlife film maker and musician Éamon de Buitléar.
The stamps and a very attractive first day cover (FDC) are available from main post offices, from the Irish Stamps shop in Dublin’s GPO or at irishstamps.ie.
