Ireland’s inland waterways comprise an extensive and interconnected network of rivers, lakes and canals. Originally conceived as part of Ireland’s first modern transport network, they now furnish delightful views into the rarely-seen and under-appreciated Irish countryside.
Speaking about the stamps, Martin Dennany, Director of Marketing &Communications with Waterways Ireland said:
“Waterways Ireland, as the guardian of the inland waterways, was delighted to be involved with An Post in the production of this series of stamps which showcase the natural and built heritage of the inland waterways. The inland waterways are the greatest natural asset on this island and with the stamps bound for many different countries, we will be able to share the beauty of our waterways with the world and encourage visitors to experience the waterways first hand.”
The stamps feature photography by Walter Pfeiffer, and are available from main Post Offices. Also available are a First Day Cover and Prestige Booklet, which, along with the stamps can be purchased from www.irishstamps.ie, from the Philatelic Shop, GPO or by phoning (01) 705 7400.
