An Post gets switched on Tory
6 December 2010
An Post switched on the computer and counter technology equipment to enable customers on Tory Island to access the same level of services as customers everywhere across its 1,170-strong post office network.
The ‘King of Tory’ Patsy Dan Rogers was on hand as Postmistress Jacqueline Rogers activated the touch screen technology which will ease post office business for islanders.
Tory Post Office is now fully geared for a host of online services including State Savings, BillPay, Prize Bonds, Gift Vouchers, postfone, Mobile Phone top up and a range of Financial Services including AIB banking and money transfer facilities.
The Tory switch on is timely in allowing local post office customers to access a host of new Christmas shopping options including seasonal gifts and stamps . Customers using the newly switched on Tory office will now be part of 1.7 million weekly customer visits to post offices nationwide.
In late 2009 An Post announced its intention to run a fully computer automated network, together with a sizeable investment in growing business volumes through improved post office facilities, products and services such as postfone and Financial Services. Top-level customer services, retail and security training has also been provided to postmasters and post office staff across the country.
‘’Bringing Tory Post Office fully into the national network is an example of the investment we are making in our unique national retail network. From Tallaght to Tory An Post customers can now avail of exactly the same level of service that this investment and new technology can bring,’’ said An Post Chief Executive Donal Connell.
