An Post quality improves year-on-year

3 June 2010

The current fine spell is in extreme contrast to the snowfalls and icy conditions which enveloped the country in January, seriously disrupting mails collections and deliveries, and resulting in hazardous road conditions for An Post’s mails delivery and distribution staff around the country.

“Quality improvement is a top priority for us,” says Donal Connell, An Post Chief Executive. “The severe snowfalls and freezing conditions in the early weeks of this year were the worst we’ve ever had to deal with.  Our mails collection, processing and delivery staff worked flat out in very difficult conditions to get mail through to customers and they even managed to improve their performance on the same period last year.   We’ll continue to make steady progress towards our 94 per cent next-day target”.

Note to Editor:

- An Post handles more than three million items of mail each day, all of which is processed through the company’s four national mail hubs in Athlone, Cork, Dublin and Portlaoise.

- Ongoing quality monitoring by the International Postal Corporation (IPC) continues to show An Post reaching or exceeding the targets laid down for handling incoming and outgoing international mail.
