An Post supports scam savvy campaign
1 April 2011
Scams are schemes designed to con you out of your cash or personal financial details, like your bank account details, PIN numbers or online banking log-in information. Scams can take many forms, ranging from fake lotteries, pyramid schemes and other "get rich quick" deals, to identity theft and bank card skimming.
The National Consumer Agency's is running a scams awareness campaign, to help consumers to become more scam savvy - learn more and take a scams straw poll. Learn more about the common scams, how to spot them and how you and those you care for can best avoid them.
We wish to remind customers that An Post never phones or emails customers regarding fees for letter or parcel collection or delivery services. If there’s nobody home to take delivery of a mail item, An Post delivery staff will leave a docket in the letterbox, giving details of the local mails unit where the item can be collected. Don’t be fooled by anyone seeking credit or debit card payment for bogus ‘delivery’ or ‘administration’ charges over the phone or by email.
A recently circulating scam email also promised a refund on TV Licence fees in return for the recipient revealing personal bank account details.
Be scam savvy! And spread the word to family and friends.
