An Post welcomes ComReg’s approval for price increase
1 March 2013
- New rate still among the very lowest in Europe
March 1, 2013: An Post welcomes the approval by ComReg of its application for an increase of 5c in the standard domestic letter rate from 55c to 60c. The international letter rate for all destinations outside the island of Ireland will increase from 82c to 90c.
The rate for sending a 50g – 100g domestic letter will reduce from 65c to 60c as the new rate will cover postage up to 100g. Full details of the new postage rates which come into effect on Tuesday, April 2nd.
The standard domestic rate has not changed since March 2007, a period of more than six years. Despite the increase, An Post rates will remain amongst the very lowest in the EU 15 countries, including Britain, France, Germany and Belgium.
This increase is essential to sustain the financial stability of An Post’s Universal Service Obligation (USO), whereby all customers, in all areas, are provided with daily collection and delivery services for a uniform tariff.
“An Post continues to focus on stringent cost saving and the development of new revenue streams but this price increase is required to ensure a sustainable USO,” a spokesperson commented.
