An Post’s National Young Savers save for that rainy day
4 December 2008
An Post’s Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Barney Whelan, presented each school with a cheque for €2,500 and a framed certificate as a reward for mastering the fine art of saving at this year’s National Young Savers Awards ceremony.
The scheme is designed to introduce the concept of saving to young children in the hope that they will see the benefit of putting money by and will continue doing so as a life long habit. The Scheme is run in conjunction with the school’s local post office and with the co-operation of school teachers who purchase the one euro ‘Cyril’ stamps and put time aside to enable the students to buy their own stamps during school time.
Barney Whelan, said ”A lot of children, including some young adults of today, have never been through a recession so it’s important to get that first introduction to what it means to put some money by – to save for that rainy day.”
