An Post’s Star Storytellers
29 May 2009
Running for over 20 years, the theme of this year’s An Post Education Awards, Space and Astronomy, was chosen to tie in with 2009 Year of Astronomy. The What’s The Story? Challenge asked children to work together as a class, and to use their imagination to create an out of this world story. An Post has issued two stamps for International Year of Astronomy, highlighting areas of astronomy that hold special interest for Ireland.
Over 120 children from primary schools in Louth, Roscommon, Wicklow, Cavan and Wexford celebrated their win with a prize giving, face painting and a special showing of the sky by night in Ireland’s only portable space dome.
Barney Whelan, Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs of An Post said “The high number of entries received and the overall standard of story writing this year is very impressive. The winners have been chosen from thousands of schools who participated. I thank and congratulate the teachers and children for their creativity and enthusiasm for the An Post Education Awards.”
Each class was presented with a certificate, a cheque for €750 for their school, a crystal trophy, €200 One4All vouchers for their teacher and school Principal and an individual memento for each student.
