Blooming Marvellous New Stamps!
21 May 2014
The two 60c stamps were designed Dublin-based Atelier David Smith; one showing a stunning silver medal-winning championship Bloom garden by Wicklow-based landscape gardener, Frazer McDonogh and the other, a woman holding a basket of colourful, fresh garden produce.
The stamps can be viewed and purchased in regular and limited edition miniature sheets together with a first day cover envelope (FDC) at main post offices and the Irish Stamps shop in Dublin’s GPO (available from Thursday May 22); online at irishstamps.ie and at the dedicated Bloom Shop during the event.
Speaking at the GPO, Gary Graham, Bord Bia’s Bloom Show Manager commented “Bord Bia is both honoured and delighted to see An Post issue a Bloom commemorative stamp. It is an invaluable recognition of the success of the show and importance of Ireland’s horticulture industry.”
An Post Philatelic Manager, Aidan Murphy said that he expected widespread interest in the stamps from gardening enthusiasts and stamp collectors at home and further afield: “Gardening and horticulture are such popular topics and there’s great national pride in the success of Bloom. We hope all our customers and stamp collectors enjoy them”.
In this, its 8th year, more than 110,000 visitors are expected to visit Bloom and to view its 30 exquisite show gardens by Ireland’s leading landscape gardeners and designers. See www.bloominthepark.com for more details
