Celebrate St Patrick’s Day with Stamps from An Post

4 March 2025

An Post has issued a set of four colourful stamps to mark the St Patrick’s Festival and the national holiday which honours the feast day (March 17th) of our patron saint, St. Patrick.

The stamps showcase the theme of this year’s festival of Irish arts, culture, and heritage in Dublin city centre: ‘Adventures (Eachtraí)’ represents the famed and legendary adventurous spirit known and loved the world worldwide as a defining symbol of Irishness. The stamps were unveiled by Ministers Patrick O’Donovan and Charlie McConalogue at the GPO today (Wednesday)

The stamp also acknowledges a generations long tradition of St Patrick’s Day being marked by local events and parades all over the country, including Dublin’s iconic St Patrick’s Day Parade, when thousands perform and as many as half a million people line the streets of the capital city to view the spectacle.

The Irish public knows very well the story of St Patrick banishing snakes from Ireland. Today, the image of a snake has become integral to St Patrick’s Festival. Creative design incorporates the snake into a set of four stamps capturing the event’s fun, energy, and playfulness. The various colourful elements evoke the exciting cultural and community activities organised as part of St Patrick’s Festival each year.

Designed by Irish agency Detail, the set features sheet of four ‘W’ rate stamps for international posting and a specially designed First Day Cover envelope, which makes for a great gift when framed, are available in selected post offices nationwide and online at anpost.com/shop.

Minister for Arts, Culture, Communications, Media and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD said “I welcome An Post issuing a set of stamps to mark the St. Patrick’s Festival, our national holiday. The stamp programme and designs are the culmination of a lot of hard work throughout the year by An Post ‘s philatelic committee, working through numerous suggestions and design proposals. I was delighted to be able to bring these designs to Government for their approval, and we all thank An Post for the beautiful designs we see on show here today.”

Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and Postal Policy, Charlie McConalogue TD said “I thank An Post for the wonderful Stamp design for St. Patrick’s Day, incorporating the wider St. Patrick’s Festival, which will be a week-long celebration of Irish Culture and Heritage. The

stamp is a fitting accompaniment to the festival, with the artwork recognising a piece of mythos in Irish tradition. An Post’s design helps celebrate our ancient heritage and culture in a modern way through contemporary artists.”

Kieran Mulvey, Chairperson of An Post said “We are delighted to issue St Patrick’s Festival stamps for our customers to use and enjoy ahead of St Patrick’s Day. We know that many families and friends will post cards and care parcels to loved ones living abroad who might be missing a taste of home right about now.
