15 October 2009
Over €3 million worth of stamps will be on view at the RDS, including many rare stamps and philatelic material. Stamp collectors will compete for qualification to the International Stamp Olympics and visitors can avail of free expert advice and valuations for their stamp collections and see the An Post C Both Sides postcard art exhibition. €5 admission includes free entry to the Over 50’s Show and the October Coin Fair. (Children free).
Michael Kelly, STAMPA organiser said that STAMPA, in its 38th year, is one of Ireland’s longest running annual exhibition. “We’re expecting thousands of visitors again this year and the dragonfly stamps will be available at the show as a first day of issue. We’re keeping our admission fee as low as possible to enable families to have a good day out without breaking the bank”.
The series of four colourful stamps, two 55c, an 82c and a 95c were illustrated by Irish artist, Ian Lowe, each featuring a different species of Irish dragonfly
The four dragonfly species that feature on the stamps are the Banded Demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens), the Four-spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata), the Large Red Damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula) and the Irish Bluet (Coenagrion lunulatum).
The stamps, including a Minisheet and two First Day Covers may be viewed and purchased at www.irishstamps.ie and at all main post offices, the GPO Philatelic Shop and at STAMPA ‘09
