Europa stamp highlights An Post Eco success

12 May 2016

Each year, post offices across Europe select a common theme to celebrate. Each country then issues its own national stamp and also a Europe-wide design chosen by open competition. The theme for 2016 is Ecology in Europe which is released at a time when An Post is celebrating its own achievements in sustainability, waste reduction and energy savings.

The 70c stamp comes from Cyprus Post and features a graphic representation of the message ‘a greener future is in our own hands’. The €1.05 international stamp was designed by Dublin company Red Dog Design and is a contemporary representation of Ireland’s renowned ‘forty shades of green’.

The stamps are issued at a time when An Post has been putting its own stamp on the sustainability front. The company has achieved significant reductions in energy use, carbon emissions and cost savings and is well on the way to reaching the Government’s 2020 energy efficiency targets.

An Post was also named, for the second time, as Best Public Sector Organisation of the Year at the recent Green Awards. Indeed, An Post is now ranked 9th of the 23 postal administrations that make up the International Post Corporation (IPC) in terms of carbon monitoring and management.

In 2015 the company was awarded the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard - the first postal company in the world to earn the prestigious international standard.

The stamps and a very attractive First day Cover (FDC) are available at main post offices, at the philatelic counters in Dublin’s GPO or online at irishstamps.ie
