INTO has the 'write stuff' Championing Education

The INTO was founded to give teachers a means to express their shared views on issues affecting the health and wellbeing of the teaching profession and education in Ireland.  It represents primary school teachers in the Republic of Ireland and both primary and post-primary school teachers in Northern Ireland.

The trade union, whose founding precedes the formation of the state, has played an active part in Irish life and history.  In the course of its 150 years the INTO has taken a stand on many issues such as the marriage bar on women and the drive for pay parity between primary teachers and their post-primary counterparts. 
 
The Union has evolved throughout the years but continues to provide advice and help to members, to promote equality in teaching and education and to advocate for the rights of teachers and children in the education sector. Equal access to full education for all children is a core tenet of the INTO.

INTO President John Boyle said that:  “The issue of the 150th anniversary stamp is a welcome recognition by the State of INTO’s work for education and for teachers since 1868. Featuring handwriting in the design is a reminder of the commitment of INTO’s first President, Vere Foster, to clarity of expression by children and the stamp is symbol of the importance of access to education for all children.”
