Irish Olympians get graphic stamp celebration

19 July 2012

An Post has issued the stamps, designed by Red Dog Design, to mark Ireland’s involvement in the games. The 55c stamp depicts a graphic interpretation of the medal ceremony. While the 82c stamp combines sharp imagery and contemporary typography to represent Ireland’s proximity to London and Team Ireland’s short journey to compete.

This summer, from July 27th to August 12th the games take place in the UK capital. This is the third occasion when the games have taken place in London. One of the largest teams ever will represent Ireland in events as varied as athletics, boxing, cycling, equestrian, gymnastics, sailing and swimming.

Both stamps and a special First Day Cover can be purchased at leading post offices, at the Philatelic shop in Dublin’s GPO or at www.irishstamps.ie.
