Magical Christmas Display unveiled at Dublin’s GPO

28 November 2017

The GPO public post office hall is a magical place once again this year, with a Christmas display complete with nativity scene, Santa’s workshop and a supporting cast of reindeer and polar bears.Celebration of An Post's Christmas display in the GPO

“We look forward to greeting customers from near and far as they soak up the unique festive atmosphere of the GPO whilst buying gifts and posting their precious cards and parcels,” said Santa.  “And be sure to call by to hear the weekday lunchtime carols from 1 – 2pm during December with the aptly-named lead violinist and Post Office manager, Noel Carroll.   It’s a great Dublin tradition and everyone is welcome,” he added.

Meanwhile Mrs Claus has some important advice for customers:

  • Post Early to be sure of delivery in good time for Christmas at home and abroad. The latest dates for guaranteed delivery of cards and parcels are getting closer:  For parcels and cards to Australia, New Zealand and Asia, it’s December 7th.   For parcels to the US, it’s December 7th and 13th for cards.

  • Take care packing, sealing and posting envelopes and parcels.  Use plenty of strong paper, jiffy bags and bubble-wrap for sharp corners.  Check the address and postage and always include a return address.  Special Christmas booklets of 26 stamps for the island of Ireland are now on sale (€25) with one free stamp.  Ask about postal services and gift ideas at your local Post Office, including One4All gift cards, Postmobile and Irish Stamp products.

  • Full details of posting dates and packaging advice are available at all post offices and online at www.anpost.ie/Christmas.
