New Racing Stamps Sure To Be Winners
11 March 2002
Featuring Istabraq, Dawn Run, L’escargot and Arkle, the new stamps mark the 250th anniversary of the First Irish Steeplechase – a race recorded in 1752 between Corkmen, ‘Mr Blake and Mr Callaghan’ from the church at Buttevant to the spire of the St Leger Church at Doneraile, County Cork.
Designed by FOR Design in Dublin, the stamps are based on photographs of the four horses in familiar action poses over hurdles and fences.
This special stamp issue is also complemented by a limited edition framed arrangement of all four stamps in sheetlet form and a collector’s First Day Cover, priced €50. Further information about this and general background on the history of Irish Racing is available at www.irishstamps.ie
