New stamps provide reasons to write…..and visit

A duo of the country’s leading landmarks, Little Skellig situated off the Kerry coast and Dublin’s Ha’penny Bridge feature on the stamps which were designed by Steve Simpson. Both mark Ireland’s contribution to the Europa stamp series which sees stamps on a common theme produced by all of Europe’s postal administrations.

This year’s theme is ‘Visit’ which An Post has interpreted as a prompt to visit this country. The stamps feature stunning photography of Little Skellig (55c) a world renowned place of natural beauty and wildlife sanctuary, and also the iconic Ha’penny Bridge over the River Liffey (82c).

The Europa stamp series was initiated in 1956 as a means of demonstrating solidarity, unity and shared purpose between European nations. Today, the common theme of each year’s Europa stamp is determined collectively by European Postal Administrations and then interpreted by each individual country.
