#READERSWANTED celebrates the value of reading

1 January 0001

Book-on-tongueAn Post is kicking off its support of the Irish Book Awards by reminding people of the power of reading to challenge and alter people’s thinking, to bring parents and children together, to break down social barriers and to entertain. As part of its three-year sponsorship, An Post also wants to encourage more people of all ages to buy more books at their local book shop and post them as gifts.

Speaking about the new campaign PJ Brigdale, Head of Brand, An Post said; ‘It’s readers who decide which books are great and which authors are most celebrated. We want to make everyone stop, look and think about the messages in#ReadersWanted and then go and get more books for themselves, their family, their friends, and get stuck into reading them.  The An Post Irish Book Awards promote all that is great about Irish writing and reading and we’ll be adding even more colour, energy and conversation in the lead up to October’s shortlist, November’s awards and throughout 2019.”

reading-in-space#ReadersWanted is a colourful, campaign centred on the work of Irish illustrator, Mark Conlan showing the powerful effects of reading and how it enriches our lives.  The opening phase illustrates how books lead us into new worlds and possibilities and also how reading can challenge and change how people think about the world and about each other.  It also reminds us of the warmth and wonder of reading with our loved ones.

An Post has a long history with the written word in Ireland. The An Post Irish Book Awards and the #ReadersWanted campaign build on the brand’s longstanding support for Adult Literacy through the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) as well as more than 30 years working with schools through its education programme at primary and secondary level.

Maria Dickenson, Chairperson of the Irish Book Awards, says:
“Reading brings such joy to all ages, so we are delighted to support the new #ReadersWanted initiative unveiled by An Post. Lots of people have good intentions to read more, but everyday life can get in the way and it can be hard to find the time. #ReadersWanted will act as a well-placed reminder to readers of all ages to pick up a book. It’s a very exciting campaign that will help put books and reading firmly back on everyone’s daily agenda.”

#ReadersWanted campaign is now live across Ireland.
