Shane Long launches 2011 An Post FAI Summer Soccer Schools

An Post FAI Summer Soccer Schools offer children from the ages of 6 to 14 a fun and healthy summer activity. The camps provide value for money and are focused on participation rather than competition. Beginning on the 4th of July and running right through to the end of August, each week-long (Monday to Friday, 10.30am to 3.00pm) school is delivered by Garda vetted FAI-qualified coaches in a safe and professional environment and is overseen by our network of FAI Development Officers.
Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long said, “An Post FAI Summer Soccer schools are the best place to be during your Summer holidays if you love football. If you’re a new player, you’ll learn all the basics and if you already play, you can improve your overall game and have fun while you’re doing it!”
Barney Whelan, An Post Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, said, “This is An Post’s second year as sponsor of the FAI Summer Soccer Schools. In our first year of sponsorship we had great feedback from children participating, and from their parents. We look forward to seeing lots more children enjoying camps throughout the Summer, being active, learning skills and having fun together.”
Barry Gleeson, An Post FAI Summer Soccer School’s National Co-Ordinator said, “Our Summer Soccer Schools are a great way of getting children out of the house and into the fresh air to enjoy themselves. The camps give girls and boys the perfect opportunity to either try it out for the first time or to hone skills that have already been developed.”
He added, “I would like to thank An Post for their continued support of the Summer Soccer Schools. Like the FAI, An Post are present in communities all over the country and we look forward to working with them to increase participation among young people”
In addition to our Mainstream camps, the success of last year’s Goalkeepers camps will see us increasing the number of Goalkeeper specific camps to 38 across the country for 2011. Goalkeeper Camps are a great introduction to the game for new goalkeepers and a fantastic tool for improving the skills of existing goalkeepers.
