St Patricks Day now a major mailing occasion

1 March 2002

Corporate orders for An Post postage-paid cards are significantly up on last year as more Irish export companies are sending St Patrick Day cards to overseas clients as part of marketing and client communication campaigns
A colourful new range of St Patrick Day postcards priced €1 and greetings cards with envelopes priced €1.80, including priority (airmail) postage to anywhere in the world, are now on sale at all post offices.

An Post’s Patricia O’Keeffe explained that initial feedback through post offices indicates an increased level of interest in cards featuring Celtic images and the traditional St Patrick’s Day message of ‘Peace’.

“There appears to be a large increase this year in the number of business and personal customers sending cards to business contacts, relatives and friends in the United States, as an expression of solidarity and respect, she said.

“Sending a St Patrick’s Day cards is also a great way to keep in touch or renew contacts with friends in foreign parts”, she added.

Last year’s customer research showed that of the one million St Patrick’s Day cards bought in post offices, 48 per cent were destined for Britain and Europe, 23 per cent for the US and Canada, 16 per cent for addresses within Ireland and 13% for Australia and the rest of the world.
