Stamps Mark Papal Jubilee
16 October 2003
The set of three stamps show the Pope, who was elected in October 1978, addressing the United Nations (denominated at 57c); greeting crowds in St Peter’s Square (50c) and on his visit to Ireland in 1979.
In addition to the stamps An Post has commissioned a special 64 page book “A Polish Pilgrim” which features a first day cover of the stamps mounted within the front cover and a pair of each of the Papal stamps inside the book.
The quality publication, which celebrates 25 years of Pope John Paul’s reign, contains informative text and more than 35 photographs of significant events during his papacy.
Also available, from major post offices and on line from www.irishstamps.ie, is a mounted ready-for-framing Papal portrait, in a limited edition of 3,000.
The commemorative issue was designed by FOR Design and has already created wide interest amongst collectors within Ireland and internationally.
