Two Stamps Mark Bloomsday Centenary

15 June 2004

A 48c stamp features an illustration of James Joyce by Italian artist Tullio Pericoli while a 65c stamp features a 1904 photograph of James Joyce by Constantine Curran with an image of the cover of the first edition of Ulysses in the background.

The photograph was reproduced by kind permission of University College Dublin Library while the National Library of Ireland kindly permitted the reproduction of the cover of Ulysses.

An Post expects heavy demand for this stamp from philatelists and James Joyce enthusiasts in Ireland and abroad. 396,000 of the 48c stamp and 330,000 of the 65c stamp have been produced, together with a First Day Cover priced €1.88, all designed by Q Design.

The stamps are available online at www.irishstamps.ie or from main Post Offices nationwide and the Philatelic Bureau in Dublin’s GPO.
