UK Mail Delays Inevitable
8 April 2002
Mail, destined for Cork and Limerick, which previously was despatched by air and mail from the North of England and Scotland, previously sent by air to Dublin are now being despatched by sea container and will take at least one day longer to reach customers here.
The major bulk of mail from the UK to Ireland - from the Midlands and the South East of England to Dublin - will continue to arrive by air but Consignia will now use an alternative carrier with less flight frequency to Ireland.
As a result a smaller proportion of this mail will be received earlier in the morning and more will arrive later. The outcome in most cases will be a delay of at least one day in the arrival of mail and a similar delivery lag.
An Post has been notified by Consignia that the changes in transportation of mail from the UK to Ireland are part of their attempt to reduce costs. An Post regrets any inconvenience to customers but insists that when received the mail will receive next day delivery.
