Data Engineer

Role Purpose


An Post Group Technology Solutions (GTS) Data & Analytics Solutions team are responsible for the maintenance and development of our data warehousing, data analytics & data science systems and business solutions.

The team ensures that our data warehouse is up to date containing the latest data from multiple operational systems and our application systems are available for use.   In addition, the team work to enhance the solutions working alongside key vendors and business colleagues.

This role will work alongside existing team members developing data integration and ETL pipelines and database development activities.  This role will focus on project related activity and support when required.

Responsibilities

The primary accountabilities associated with this role include but are not limited to the following:
  • Develop, enhance, tune and support ETL/ELT and data integration solutions using Oracle Data integrator (ODI).
  • Build, enhance and maintain dimensional data models for Data Warehouse.
  • Provide support for data warehousing ETL operations and respond to issues as they arise.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and build scalable solutions that meet business needs.
  • Develop & maintain expertise in data warehousing technologies and business data.
  • Complete robust system testing and data quality checks and ensure data integrity throughout the ETL process.
  • Support business users through the User Acceptance process.
  • Work closely with Data Scientists and Analysts on Business Insights team to support data analysis and insights projects
  • Assist team in writing technical specs and end-user documentation.
  • Transition of development work to a support Team.
  • Demonstrate An Post values and behaviours in your day to day work and address behaviour that supports/conflicts with them.

Knowledge & Experience

The ideal candidate will have a relevant third level qualification and at least 2 years’ hands –on experience of Data Warehouse/ETL/Data Analytics technologies in a development environment.  Ideally, you will have experience and knowledge of Data Warehousing, PL/SQL, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) and Python, together with excellent Data Analytics and problem-solving skills.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience of building data integrations using ODI (Oracle Data Integrator) as a part of an overall analytics solution. The candidate should have strong hands-on technical experience in programming and data manipulation/transformation of large data sets using varied source databases (cloud / on-premise) and platforms.

You will have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in the following systems will also be an advantage (Oracle Analytics (OAC/OAS), Golden Gate, Oracle APEX).

You will have excellent communication and team working skills and be quality focused, with past experience of ensuring delivery of excellent customer service.
